So the journey started in June 2007, very much overweight since packing up football and smoking. My weight had steadily increased to 244.4 lb (17.45 stone \ 111 kg) in line with my exercise and any sporting activities decreasing to zero. My brother suggested I try running (jogging) and introduced me to a fantastic website FetchEveryone. With a interest in IT and stats ‘Fetch’ gave me an easy way to record my progress and improvements not only in weight loss but soon, my new found addiction, to running. In August I entered my first race the ‘Everton 10k’. I loved it! Having set myself a target to finish inside 55 minutes I surpassed all expectations finishing in 45:35 in the top 60 and that was it – I was hooked. I went on to complete a further seven events ranging from 1 mile to 10k.

Diet & Weight

Diet-wise nothing really changed, I was still drinking most nights and enjoying all normal foods. I would point out I was quite a healthy eater and cooked from fresh ingredients however my portion sizes were massive and I did fall foul to the occasional takeaways and fast food when traveling with work.

Just due to the running my weight dropped (this is normal when you add running into your lifestyle) and I finished 2007 weighing 13 stone, a decrease in 4 ½ stone in 7 months and a little better for my  5ft 11 frame.
